Keratoconus is an eye condition in which the cornea slowly thins and distorts into a cone shape, which can lead to distortion of the image on the retina and loss of vision. Although the exact cause of keratoconus is not yet fully understood, genetic predisposition combined with environmental factors, such as excessive eye friction, allergies and UV exposure, appear to play a role.
